Where to stay in the north
Hotels in Northern Pakistan vary far more than their photographs suggest. A property that looks identical to another online can differ by an hour of driving, a working heater, or whether hot water actually arrives in the morning. We only list stays we have used or inspected, and where a property is connected to our booking system you can see real availability for your dates rather than an enquiry form that goes nowhere.
What we book
Our accommodation falls into three types. Hotels and resorts are the standard choice — heated rooms, an in-house restaurant, parking and a front desk, in the main towns like Karimabad, Skardu, Naran and Kalam. Guest houses are smaller and family-run, usually quieter and better value on longer stays, with home-cooked food and more personal service. Cottages and whole-unit stays contain several bedrooms and are booked as one unit, which suits families and groups travelling together who want a shared living space rather than separate rooms along a corridor.
How availability and pricing work
Properties connected to our hotel management system show live availability: pick your dates and the site checks which units are genuinely free, so you are not quoted a room that has already gone. Rates shown are per night and are a good-faith estimate confirmed by the property when your booking is approved. Seasonal pricing is real in the north — the same room in Hunza can double in autumn — so we confirm the final figure before you pay anything. Multi-room and multi-night stays are handled in one booking, including cottages that contain several bedrooms.
Choosing the right area to stay
In Hunza, Karimabad is the practical base: it puts the forts, the bazaar and the Eagle's Nest viewpoint within reach, and most rooms face the valley. In Skardu, staying near Shangrila or in the town both work, depending on whether you want lake views or easier access to Deosai and Shigar. In Kaghan valley, Naran is the main hub but Shogran is quieter and greener. For Fairy Meadows, accommodation is in wooden cottages in the meadow itself, reached by jeep and a walk — comfortable but basic, with limited electricity. If you are unsure, tell us your route and we will place you where the driving works out.
What to expect from mountain hotels
Standards in the north are improving quickly but remain different from city hotels. Power cuts are common and most decent properties run a generator or solar backup. Heating matters from October to April, and a room with proper heating is worth paying for. Wi-Fi exists in most towns but is slow and often drops — plan to be partly offline. Hot water is usually available at fixed hours in smaller guest houses rather than around the clock. None of this is a problem when you know it in advance, which is why we say it plainly rather than after you arrive.
Booking a room through Pine Travel
Choose your property, select the rooms or cottages you need and the number of nights, and submit the booking with your contact details. An invoice is generated immediately with a booking number, marked unpaid and not yet confirmed. Our team confirms availability with the property and contacts you on WhatsApp, then an advance secures the room. Because we book directly with properties rather than through a reseller, the rate you get is the rate we get, and any special request — an extra bed, a ground-floor room, a late check-in — goes to the property as a person-to-person message rather than a checkbox.
